Mazatlan

ImageAffectionately called “The Pearl of the Pacific”, Mazatlan is situated on the Sea of Cortez and basks year-round in delightful weather.

This incomparable port city is one of the most important tourist destinations in the world. Set in a beautiful cove of the Pacific, Mazatlan lies at approximately the same latitude as Hawaii.

With an abundance of sunshine and an average temperature of 82 degrees Fahrenheit (28 degrees Celsius), Mazatlan is a place people are eager to be outdoors. There is no shortage of things to do in this beautiful port city with a delightful laid-back atmosphere.

Beaches: The Golden Zone’s wide, white, sandy beaches attract numerous tourists and handicraft vendors and an abundance of beach sports. You will find the water delightfully warm almost year-round.

Just a short distance across the beautiful water, three islands spectacularly rise up with small beaches of their own and intriguing tidal pools for divers and snorkelers.

Downtown

The downtown area displays colonial architecture and historical points like the Cathedral, central market and the theater. Music fills the air at the central plaza, an area where you will find families and friends gathering each evening to enjoy the ambiance, fresh Mexican beer and food.

Shopping

Handicrafts, silver jewelry, leather clothes, handmade gold jewelry, hand-painted pottery, fine wood sculptures, Mexican blankets and much more are available in the shops in Mazatlan, at very affordable prices. It’s a shopper’s paradise!

There are so many varied eating establishments you can pick a different restaurant every night. Choose from wonderfully prepared fresh local, succulent seafood, to hot & spicy Mexican plates, to international fine dining. And the nightlife never ends. Happening clubs for those who like to party long and late, and romantic dance floors for easy listening and dancing… You will find them all here!

Beach Sports

Para-sail, kayak, boogie board, try a catamaran, or jump on some jet skis or a banana boat, try shore fishing, swimming, body surfing, beach volleyball, or simply laze away the sunny day in a lounge chair under a palapa with a cool refreshing Margarita!Image

Sport Fishing

The local waters teem with swordfish, sailfish, marlin, tuna and dorado. Farther north is the best fresh water bass fishing in Mexico. John Wayne and Robert Mitchum, long ago, back in the seventies, discovered the sport fishing possibilities in Mazatlan and it has only become better!

Walking and climbing

Walk the 17 kms of the Malecon from Valentino’s to Olas Altas along the shore of Mazatlan’s beaches. Climb the lighthouse, the second highest natural elevation lighthouse in the world, for yet another spectacular view.

Further south of the city there is the Olas Altas (“High Waves”) beach. It has a spectacular sea break for surfers, which can be admired from one of the many outdoor cafes along the avenue.

Take time to watch local teams play soccer and baseball on the beach. Nearby, you’ll find local fishermen selling their fresh catch on a daily basis. Best times to buy are early morning or late afternoon. Check out the wonderful smaller restaurants on the beach with their fresh seafood.
